ENVIRONMENT/LEED®Greco Aluminum Railings Environmental StatementOur products are made from aluminum which is among the most recycled materials. Most of our products contain pre-consumer reclaimed contents (LEEDS® points), and, upon disposal, the material can be recycled at metal reclamation sites. Example of our products containing reclaimed content is the aluminum extrusion have a 25% content. Our railings are durable and have long use cycles, thereby reducing replacement costs and maximizing material usage efficiency. They are maintenance free requiring no treatments, stains, paints or preservatives that may contain contaminating chemicals. Our railings are strong yet lightweight using less raw material and allowing easier handling, lower shipping costs and less fuel consumption. Our products coating operation features a new state-of-art powder coating line that emits no V.O.C.'s. Our pre-treatment process uses a non-chromium pre-treatment wash, and reclaims 60% of the waste water. Greco Aluminum Railings is committed to the environment and can help you earn points for your upcoming project.

close XGRECO's Contribution to LEED®
Established by the U.S. Green Building Council USGBC and in Canada as Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC), the LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards are set of credits that can be used to certify building projects that have been designed, constructed, and/or managed in an environmentally responsible way. The standards have been adopted by a number of states, cities, and government agencies as regulatory requirements or guidelines. More information about the USGBC® or CAGBC and LEED® are available on the organization's website www.usgbc.org or www.cagbc.com.
Why is LEED important:
- Conserve natural resources
- Reduce operating costs
- Enhance occupant comfort and health
- Minimize strain on local infrastructure
- Enhance asset value and profits
- Contribute to overall quality of life
Aluminum Facts:
- Extremely easy to maintain and corrosion-resistant
- Light to transport which leads to reduced fuel costs
- Recyclable and reusable
Powder Coating Facts:
- Extremely easy to maintain and corrosion-resistant
- Light to transport which leads to reduced fuel costs
- Recyclable and reusable
How can GRECO help?
How GRECO aluminum railings can contribute to your projects LEED certification:
| Credit 2.1 | Construction Waste Management: Divert 50% from Disposal |
| Credit 2.2 | Construction Waste Management: Divert 75% from Disposal |
| Credit 4.1 | Recycle Content 10% |
| Credit 4.2 | Recycle Content 20% |
Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer content constitutes at least 10% or 20% of the total value of the materials in the project.
| Credit 5.1 | Regional Materials 10% Extracted - Processed & Manufactured |
| Credit 5.2 | Regional Materials 20% Extracted - Processed & Manufactured |
Use building materials or products that have been extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of the project site for a minimum of 10% or 20% of the total materials.

close XAluminum Extrusions Recycle Content
Greco Aluminum Railings's environmental policy is to balance the needs of business with the long term needs of the environment. As part of our recycling program, all of our scrap aluminum is sent to a metal reclamation site to be recycled into new aluminum products. Although our recycled material percentages constantly change based upon the type of aluminum alloy we order, currently approximately 25% of our product comes from recycled post-industry aluminum.
While Post-consumer aluminum is 100% recyclable, the extrusion process does not use a higher recycled content because of quality problems. The major concern is in meeting the strength and hardness certifications required by for the alloys and tempers we require for our products.
In addition to the above, 80% of our extrusions are extruded in Windsor Ontario area and only 20% is supplied from within 320 miles.
